7.3  Forum settings

In this section, you will find the forum-related settings.

7.3.1  Customizable colours

When clicking on this link you will reach a colour customization interface.

Now it’s your turn to play !.

Click on the colour commands to update their associated fields. The modification will be visible on the forum preview panel in the right part.

You can also choose from a range of pre-defined customized templates made by other forum members.

If you click on the member username, the page will reload with new updated settings. You can do that even faster by clicking on the eyes icon

This will apply your brand new settings, except for the borders (technically impossible)

This is a really good way to quickly see colours used by other members of the forum.

Once you have defined your colours, validate your choice by going to the bottom-right of the page. From there you may also reset you preferences. If you want a 3D effect for the frame borders, you will have to stick with the default template.

7.3.2  Number of messages per page

Choose the number of messages per page that should be displayed for you

For example, if the topic contains 200 messages and you choose to display 40 messages per page, you will get 5 pages for this topic. If you choose to display 50 messages per page, then this topic will create 4 pages.

If you leave this field empty, you will be using the default number pre-set by the administrator.

7.3.3  Hour delay for marking a topic as « old »:

Topics can be marked as "old" after if you have left the forum for a certain amount of hours. Reset this option to deactivate it.

7.3.4  Displaying avatars

If you use a dial-up connexion you may want to deactivate avatar display (those images below the members’ nickname).

Attention

On some forums, administrators have chosen that avatars should not be displayed by default unless the member has activated this option in his profile.

7.3.5  Displaying signatures

An option to display or hide members’ signature below their messages

On some forums, administrators have chosen that members’ signature should not be displayed by default unless members have activated this option in their profile.

Attention

This option only manages the visibility of other members’ signature. To display or hide your own signature, you have to enable or disable this option as you are typing your message when you participate to a topic. (See details)

7.3.6  Displaying toolbars

The toolbar can be removed to clean up your interface. It can also be fully customizable.

Attention

If you have decided to remove the toolbar, you will lose many important control features like the possibility to edit a message or to leave a reply….it’s up to you.

7.3.7  Quote display

There are two ways to display quotes in messages

7.3.8  Smileys & images rendering

This option lets you choose whether you want smileys and images to be enabled and therefore displayed in messages. For example, you may want to deactivate this option if you use a dial-up connexion to make pages load faster.

7.3.9  Modern text editor (previously WYSIWYG)

The text field to reply to a message can be a modern editor that content WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor mode.

7.3.10  Lines hovering

Line hovering is an effect that will change the colours of the lines when you move your mouse over them in the category list or topic list

7.3.11  Graphical theme

This option, as you will have guessed, lets you choose a graphical theme to modify the forum display

7.3.12  Icon sets

You may modify the icon sets by choosing the set of your choice

7.3.13  Forum Language

If you wish to read the forum in a different language simply select the one of your choice

Note : All the translations are not yet available.

7.3.14  Zlib compression mode for pages

Enabled by default, this option creates auto-compression for pages sent by the server so that they load quicker for you. However this may cause display troubles on your side as the decompression is done by your computer. If this is the case, simply deactivate this option here.

7.3.15  PM email alert

Choose whether you want to receive an email each time a new PM is sent to you

7.3.16  Contact preferences

Choose how you want to be informed about actions that have been done related to your account (moderation, a subject moved to another category) either by email or by PM.

7.3.17  Time zone

You can choose your time zone. If this option is left blank, we will use the one preset on the server.

You can also choose to integrate seasonal time changes so that the forum adjust its time settings
